Collection(s)It is a natural cave inhabited by humans, 3,566 m in length and 45 m in altitude. It has four formation layers, therefore it bears relevance as regards the origin of caves, and layer 2 (the upper one) and layer 3 (the lower one) bear a general relevance. Archaeological data: C. S. Nicolăescu-Plopşor conducted archaeological excavations in 1929, and resumed the works together with his collaborators between 1951 and 1955, at the mouth of the cave, in the main gallery and in the south-north gallery (starting from the ground level of the cave up to the surface). The archaeological traces uncovered belong to the following historical periods: the Palaeolithic, Neolithic, the Transition Period from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age, the Bronze Age, Hallstatt, Dacian La Tène, the Middle Ages.
