The Sângeorgiu de Mureş Public Collection (CPSM), whose headquarters are located in a castle built in the 1870s in Sângeorgiu de Mureş, is an innovative initiative, a public cultural institution whose mission is to preserve, research and highlight the heritage held, artifacts and museum pieces related to different social strata in the town. The commune of Sângeorgiu de Mureş has set up a permanent exhibition in the Máriaffi Castle, a historic building recently restored with European funds. To achieve this goal, the City Hall initiated a program to acquire some artifacts, which now form the basis of the exhibition project. The Sângeorgiu de Mureş Public Collection carries out the specific activity of a museum collection, to research, conserve, enrich and enhance, to promote the movable and immovable cultural heritage under its administration, opening access to culture for the purpose of educating and recreating the public. The mission consists of a) the study of local society and of archaeological, historical, natural history, ethnographic, linguistic, ethnomusicological material and immaterial culture through field research, respectively based on collections and b) the transfer of scientific knowledge to the public, aiming to educate the public while spending their free time in an enjoyable way. The declared goal of the Sângeorgiu de Mureş Public Collection is to contribute to the sustainable development, first of all, of the town and commune of Sângeorgiu de Mureş, secondly, of Mureş county and the Centru region, by collecting, protecting, restoring and valorizing cultural heritage.
