Collection(s):

Opened in 2001, the Babeş-Bolyai University Vivarium exhibits a permanent collection of live animals, housed and cared for in conditions similar to those in their natural environment. Temporary exhibitions with different themes can also be visited. The predominant function of the Vivarium is didactic in nature, and the permanent collection is directly and continuously shaped by the teaching needs of students, thus representing the practical part of the teaching act. By organizing and participating in various events that involve community involvement, by organizing temporary exhibitions and workshops with interesting themes and the interactive way of visiting, the UBB Vivarium also has... a strong educational component for the public, especially the young public, in order to learn about and protect nature. The Vivarium also offers, on a voluntary basis, specialized (veterinary) assistance for sick and injured reptile or bird species. The Vivarium's permanent collection includes 53 species of reptiles, amphibians, fish and arthropods.
