The Alexandru Duma Museum was inaugurated on January 20, 2020, in the context of the Centennial of Babeş-Bolyai University. It is the ninth museum operating within the university and is under the aegis of the University Cultural Heritage Directorate. The Alexandru Duma Museum represents a space for the remembrance of the First World War, starting from the individual experience of a young Transylvanian artist who became a soldier in the Austro-Hungarian army. Alexandru Duma (1887-1916) was affiliated with the School of Painting in Baia Mare between 1911-1914. He died on the Italian front in September 1916. The drawings made during the two years of wanderings on the front were returned t...o the family. After more than a century, they were donated to the University of Cluj, which made them accessible to the general public through the museum's permanent exhibition. Designed classically – as an exhibition space – and modernly – as a multimedia ensemble, the Alexandru Duma Museum is proposed as a framework for cultural-educational activities addressed to pupils, students and all those interested in the history of the First World War and the visual arts. The Alexandru Duma Museum space is organized as follows: two exhibition halls, the digital platform area and the VR room.
