The Sports Museum operates under the Ministry of Sports and currently hosts 2 exhibitions dedicated to the history of Romanian sports and Romania's participation in the most important sports competition - the Olympic Games. The museum was founded in 1971, reopened in 1994 in the building of the National Museum of Romanian History and relocated to its current headquarters in the Olympic House in 2011. CHRONICLE OF ROMANIAN SPORTS From the appearance of the first sports activities on the territory of our country to the development of numerous sports disciplines, the visitor can make a foray into the history of each sport that produced emotions and unique moments to all those who love this ac...tivity. The exhibition consisting of images, text, objects such as medals, trophies or sports equipment outlines the history of the disciplines that made the tricolor known in every corner of the world. On display are: the collective passport with which the Romanian football team participated in the first World Championship in Uruguay in 1930; the sword with which Mihai Covaliu won gold at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000; Aurel Vernescu's kayak; the skiff with which Sanda Toma won the first gold medal of Romanian rowing at the Moscow Olympic Games in 1980; The men's handball World Cup won by the national team 4 times in 1961, 1964, 1970, 1974; The World Cup won by Romania's women's under-11 handball team in 1956; sports equipment of Violeta Beclea Szekely (athletics), Ionela Târlea (athletics), Alin Savu (basketball), Gabriela Szabo (athletics), Ana Maria Brânza (fencing), Laura Ilie (shooting) or Nicu Stoian (volleyball), championship medals national, titles of master emeritus of Romanian sport or titles obtained at European and world competitions by Romanian athletes. OLYMPIC ROMANIA 100 In the context of the centenary anniversary of the Romanian Olympic movement and obviously, as a recognition of the over 300 medals, the second floor of the museum presents an exhibition that combines the past with the present in order to illustrate and highlight to the visitor the Olympic history of Romania, an image that is difficult to dispute and very well placed. A retrospective that includes in chronological order, objects of indisputable value, moments, information and images of a unique nature with which the legendary athletes of the country are identified, such as Nadia Comăneci, Ivan Patzaichin, Iolanda Balaş Soter, Ion Panţuru, Nicolae Linca, Iosif Sîrbu , Lia Manoliu, Aurel Vernescu, Dumitru Pârvulescu, Maricica Puică, Ştefan Petrescu, Cornelia Sideri.
